Competition Theme
Emotional Justice: Healing Bonds Through Parent-Child Communication
Introduction
In 2026, the competition turns to the intricate realm of human psychology, placing parent-child relationships at the center of exploration. As we navigate the complexities of modern life, the emotional landscape between generations often becomes a battlefield of unspoken words, misunderstood intentions, and generational gaps. This theme invites participants to delve into the profound impact of communication on emotional well-being and identity formation.
Just as justice ensures fairness and equity in society, emotional justice guarantees that every member of a family is seen, heard, and valued. Participants are encouraged to examine the dynamics of trust, empathy, and active listening that form the foundation of healthy family bonds. They are prompted to reflect on how unresolved conflicts, silent emotions, and ineffective communication can create distance, while honest, compassionate dialogue can bridge divides and foster deep, lasting connections.
These challenges are deeply personal and universally relevant. For instance, how do we bridge the gap between traditional expectations and modern aspirations? How can parents and children truly understand each other's motivations and fears? If we fail to address these emotional needs, we risk weakening the very fabric of our most intimate relationships, hindering personal growth and emotional maturity
Prompts
1. “The most important thing in life is your family, but sometimes the most difficult relationship is with your family.” Reflect on this statement in the context of parent-child communication and emotional justice.
2. How can active listening and emotional awareness transform strained parent-child relationships into sources of strength and support?
3. In the context of global cultures and diverse family structures, what responsibilities do individuals have to understand and respect the emotional needs of their parents and children?
4. Share a personal experience or observation about a moment when miscommunication in a family led to conflict, and how empathy or honest dialogue could have altered the outcome.
All responses should consider both the challenges and the transformative potential of emotional connection in family life.

Past Competition Themes
Over the years, our competition has explored diverse and thought-provoking themes, each designed to resonate with the global challenges of justice, equality, and cultural identity. These themes have encouraged participants to delve into critical issues, creatively expressing their perspectives through the lens of language and social justice.
• 2021: “Digital Justice: The Evolution of Language in the Age of Technology”
In 2021, the theme turned towards the digital world, exploring how technology impacts language and justice. Participants considered how digital platforms shape communication, promote or hinder free speech, and influence movements for social justice in an increasingly connected world.
• 2022: “Linguistic Justice: Bridging Divides in a Multilingual World”
The 2022 competition focused on the role of language in promoting inclusion and equality in multilingual societies. Participants were invited to explore the idea of linguistic justice, emphasizing the need to preserve language diversity and support access to education in mother tongues.
• 2023: “Voices Unheard: Reviving Endangered Languages”
In 2023, the spotlight turned to the preservation of endangered languages. This theme encouraged participants to raise awareness about the cultural and historical significance of these languages, and to explore efforts to revive them as a means of promoting linguistic and cultural justice.
• 2024: “Embracing Our Roots: Overcoming Mother Tongue Shyness” In 2024, the competition shifts focus to the often overlooked issue of Mother Tongue Shyness, addressing the discomfort or lack of confidence many individuals face when using their native languages. This theme invites participants to explore the various factors contributing to this phenomenon, such as language education, sociocultural influences, and personal experiences. With over 7,000 languages worldwide, the loss of any language signifies the disappearance of a unique culture. This year's theme aims to inspire participants to rediscover and appreciate their native languages, fostering confidence and reversing trends that could lead to cultural erosion. Through their creative expressions, participants are encouraged to celebrate linguistic heritage and promote the enduring value of every mother tongue.
• 2025: “AI and Ethics: Navigating the Future” In 2025, the theme focuses on the ethical dilemmas brought by the integration of artificial intelligence into daily life. Participants are invited to explore critical issues such as privacy, bias, and accountability in AI technologies, balancing their benefits with ethical principles that protect individuals and communities.
